I’d been looking into teaching online for a while when I came across Catherine's website, and until then I kept making excuses not to take the plunge and quit my then teaching job and start teaching online. I found Catherine's website and blogs really useful so I contacted her asking what this online teaching thing was all about. I spoke to Catherine for the first time through Zoom (which was the first time I had even heard of Zoom let alone used it) and she gave me invaluable advice about all the options I had available, which companies I could work for and what were the pros and cons of each in terms of pay, scheduling and flexibility. Catherine was super patient and answered all my questions and concerns, and on top of that she is really friendly and so easy to relate to!
I just wanted to say thanks again for the info you shared with me. I had my mock class tonight and passed! I really learned a lot from your website!
This was brilliant thank you so so much! Your tips were very helpful and I never thought about writing my resume like that.
No, you don't need a TEFL qualification to take this course. However, you will need to complete a 120-hour TEFL qualification in order to apply for a teaching position with an online ESL company (I share some examples in the course).
Though the course is designed mostly with teaching children in mind, a lot of the content is relevant to teaching adults too. The course touches on Marketplaces for listing your services and setting up your CV and LinkedIn profile. But the majority of the course is focused on teaching children.
You can complete the whole course in just a few hours — most teachers finish over a weekend! Take your time with the workbook activities to plan your journey and feel fully prepared before applying. It's a good idea to come back to certain sections to review after you have completed your TEFL qualification.
Yes! Once you have purchased the course, you have lifetime access for the lifetime of the course and all of the materials included.
That's ok, don't worry. All online teachers had to start somewhere. But to make things easier for you, I have built the ESL Teacher Toolkit, which includes tech and tool walkthroughs such as how to use Zoom, Koala Go, Wordwall, and more, saving you a headache when it comes to navigating online tools.
